MindPlus Clubs Day FAQ
Is my child suitable for the programme? How do I know if they are gifted?
You can find information about what giftedness is and hear from some gifted kids, their parents and teachers on our website here.
Talking to your child’s teacher about what they notice is also a great idea.
Can children come who are not gifted?
No. Research shows that our gifted kids thrive when they have a group of like minds - kids whose brains work like theirs. It’s especially exciting for these kids to find other gifted kids whose passions and interests are as intense as theirs. MindPlus Clubs Day is designed to be a place where gifted kids can find those peers, rather than being an enrichment programme for neurotypical children.
Do I have to live in Auckland?
No! We welcome gifted children from all over New Zealand. Unfortunately, at this stage we don’t have any funding available to support travel costs, but we would be delighted to have you join us.
How do I get my school to support my child to come?
Please refer your school to our website and our information for schools.
Do I need to make an application for each of my children?
Yes. Each child needs a separate application and will receive a separate ticket.
My child doesn’t want to work with younger/ older kids.
We get it! There will be a big range of ages and stages in each of our Clubs - and sometimes younger kids can be just as, and more, advanced than older students! Our teachers are very experienced in helping students to find buddies that they relate to and enjoy working with, and differentiating activities and learning.
My child has medical needs.
Please let us know about your child's medical needs when you register. If your child needs medication during the day, let us know and our MindPlus teachers will be able to keep this safe and give to your child when it is needed. We don't want any children carrying medication in their bags or administering their own medication.
Can I come with my child?
If you would like to stay with your child for some or all of this day, that is fine. The first hour of the day will be warm-up activities and getting to know each other, and if you would like to support your child as they settle into this, that would be great. Please just let us know when you register that you’d like to do that.
